The EPF interest rate for FY 2024-25 is 8.25% per annum as announced by EPFO. Interest is calculated monthly on running balance but credited to your account at the end of the financial year (March). You can edit the rate in the calculator above to model future scenarios.
Employer contributes 12% of Basic+DA. Of this, 8.33% goes to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme), capped at ₹1,250/month (calculated on ₹15,000 wage ceiling). The remaining amount — 3.67% for basic ≤ ₹15,000, or 12% minus ₹1,250 for higher basic — goes to your EPF account.
Partial withdrawal is allowed from Year 7 (up to 50% of balance at end of Year 4 or Year 6, whichever is lower). Full premature closure is allowed from Year 6 only in special circumstances — medical emergency, higher education, change of residency. Otherwise the full 15-year lock-in applies.
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government savings scheme for girl children. A parent or guardian can open one account per girl child, with a maximum of two accounts per family (three if twins/triplets). The account must be opened before the girl turns 10. It offers 8.2% interest — the highest of all small savings schemes — and is fully EEE tax-free.
EEE stands for Exempt-Exempt-Exempt: (1) contribution qualifies for Section 80C deduction (saving tax on investment), (2) interest earned is tax-free each year, (3) maturity amount is completely tax-free. EPF, PPF, and SSY all enjoy EEE status, making them the most tax-efficient savings instruments available.
