Step-Up SIP automatically increases your monthly investment by a fixed % every year. As your salary grows 10% yearly, your SIP grows too. Starting ₹5,000/month with 10% step-up is equal to ₹5,500 in year 2, ₹6,050 in year 3, and so on. This more than doubles your final corpus vs a flat SIP — without needing a higher starting amount.
At 12% return: flat SIP of ₹10,000/month for 20 years, OR ₹6,000/month with 10% annual step-up for 20 years. Both reach ~₹1 crore. Use the Step-Up tab to find the minimum SIP you need.
Each SIP instalment is treated as a separate investment with its own holding period. Units bought more than 1 year ago qualify for LTCG at 12.5% (after ₹1.25L exemption). Units under 1 year are STCG at 20%. In practice, for long-running SIPs, most units are LTCG. Use the LTCG tab above to estimate your tax.
Equity mutual fund SIPs are market-linked — their value can go up or down in the short term. However, historically, Nifty 50 SIPs over any 10-year period in India have never given negative returns. The longer you invest, the lower the risk of loss. Short-term SIPs (under 3 years) in equity funds carry real risk.
SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) is the reverse of SIP — you withdraw a fixed amount every month from your accumulated corpus. Ideal for retirement: keep your money invested (earning returns) while drawing a monthly "salary" from it. Use the SWP tab to see how long your corpus lasts.
