How to Use TradeCalc — Stock Trading Calculator

TradeCalc shows you exactly how much a trade costs — brokerage, STT, GST, stamp duty — and your actual net profit. See filled examples for delivery, intraday, and F&O trades.

Example 1
Delivery Trade (CNC) — Bought and Sold Stocks
Use this for stocks held overnight (delivery trades). Tax treatment: STCG at 20% if held <12 months, LTCG at 12.5% if held >12 months.
Example — buying and selling Reliance shares
Trade TypeDelivery (CNC)
StockRELIANCE NSE
Buy Price₹2,800 per share
Quantity50 shares
Sell Price₹3,050 per share
Holding Period8 months (STCG)
Gross Profit+₹12,500
Brokerage (₹20 flat × 2 orders)−₹40
STT (0.1% both sides)−₹290
Exchange + SEBI charges−₹26
Stamp Duty−₹21
GST on brokerage (18%)−₹7
Net Profit (before tax)+₹12,116
STCG Tax @20%−₹2,423
Take-Home Profit+₹9,693
💡 Many traders are surprised that STT alone can cost ₹200–400 on a medium-sized delivery trade. TradeCalc shows you all charges so you can calculate the exact profit before executing the trade.
Example 2
Intraday Trade (MIS) — Bought and Sold Same Day
Intraday profits are taxed as business income (at your income slab). Losses can be carried forward for 4 years.
Example — intraday trade on Tata Motors
Trade TypeIntraday (MIS)
StockTATAMOTORS NSE
Buy Price₹860
Quantity200 shares
Sell Price₹873
Gross Profit+₹2,600
Brokerage (₹20 flat × 2)−₹40
STT (0.025% sell side only)−₹44
Other charges−₹19
Net Profit (before income tax)+₹2,497
💡 Intraday STT is much lower than delivery (0.025% vs 0.1%). But intraday profits are taxed as business income, which for most people means 20–30% vs 20% STCG. Long-term delivery holding has the most favourable tax treatment.
Example 3
Calculate Break-Even Price Before Trading
Use TradeCalc's break-even mode to know the minimum price you need to sell at just to cover costs.
Example — what price must HDFC Bank reach for me to break even?
Trade TypeDelivery (CNC)
Buy Price₹1,620
Quantity100 shares
Break-even sell price: ₹1,623.24
(covering brokerage, STT, charges — no profit, no loss)

Frequently Asked Questions

What charges are included in the calculation?

TradeCalc includes: Brokerage (flat ₹20 or % based on broker), STT (Securities Transaction Tax), Exchange Transaction Charges, SEBI Charges, Stamp Duty, GST on brokerage, and optional capital gains tax (STCG/LTCG). All are shown as separate line items.

What is the difference between STCG and LTCG?

STCG (Short Term Capital Gains) applies to equity held less than 12 months, taxed at 20%. LTCG applies to equity held over 12 months, taxed at 12.5% on gains above ₹1.25 lakh per year. Intraday profits are business income, taxed at your income slab rate. F&O profits are also treated as business income.

Which broker does TradeCalc use for calculations?

By default, TradeCalc uses flat ₹20 brokerage per order (matching Zerodha/Groww/Upstox pricing). You can enter a different brokerage amount for other brokers or percentage-based pricing.
