How to Use ShopBook for Your Shop

ShopBook runs in your browser — no installation needed. This guide walks you through setting up your shop and creating your first bill, with a grocery shop as a filled example.

Step 1
Set up your shop details
Open ShopBook and go to Settings (gear icon). Fill in your shop information — it appears on every bill you print.
Example — Ramesh General Store
Shop Name: Ramesh General Store
Address: 12, Gandhi Chowk, Indore, MP 452001
Phone: +91 94567 23456
GSTIN: 23AABCR1234D1Z5 (leave blank if not registered)
💡 Your shop name and GSTIN appear in the header of every bill. If you're a small trader without GST registration, you can leave GSTIN blank — the bill header will just show the shop name and phone.
Step 2
Add your products
Go to Products and click + Add Product. Add each item you sell with its price per unit.
Example products — Ramesh General Store
Product NamePriceUnit
Basmati Rice₹85per kg Toor Dal₹120per kg Sunflower Oil₹145per litre Parle-G Biscuit₹10per packet Dettol Soap₹48per piece Sugar₹45per kg
💡 Add your most frequently sold items first. You can edit prices anytime — price changes apply to new bills only (old bills retain the original price).
Step 3
Create a new bill
Click + New Bill. Enter the customer name (optional). Then add items from your product list and set quantities.
Example — customer purchase
Customer: Sunita Devi
• Basmati Rice — 5 kg → ₹425
• Toor Dal — 2 kg → ₹240
• Sunflower Oil — 1 litre → ₹145
• Parle-G Biscuit — 3 packets → ₹30
• Dettol Soap — 2 pieces → ₹96
Here's what the bill looks like:

Thank you for shopping!
Step 4
Print or download the receipt as PDF
Click View on the bill. In the receipt modal, you have three options:
  • Print — Opens browser print dialog. Use a thermal 58mm or 80mm receipt printer, or print to A4.
  • ⬇️ PDF — Downloads a PDF formatted as a thermal receipt (80mm width). Useful for WhatsApp or email.
  • ✅ Done — Closes the receipt and marks the bill as completed.
💡 Send the receipt PDF on WhatsApp to your customers for a professional touch. Most grocery customers appreciate a digital receipt they can reference later.
Step 5
View sales history and daily totals
The Bills tab shows all past bills sorted by date. You can see total collection per day and search bills by customer name or bill number.
💡 ShopBook stores all data in your browser (localStorage). If you clear browser data or use a different device, your bills won't be there. For a permanent backup, use the browser's print feature to save any important bills as PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ShopBook work without internet?

Yes — once you've opened ShopBook in your browser, it works offline. All data is saved in your browser's localStorage. Internet is only needed to first load the page.

Can I use ShopBook on a mobile phone?

Yes — ShopBook is mobile-responsive. Many shopkeepers use it on an Android phone kept at the counter. For the best experience, use Chrome on Android.

Can I print on a thermal receipt printer?

Yes. Click Print from the receipt modal. In the print dialog, set the paper size to match your thermal printer (58mm or 80mm). The receipt is formatted to fit thermal paper width. The PDF download also uses 80mm width.

Is my data backed up?

ShopBook stores data in browser localStorage — it doesn't sync to a server. If you clear your browser data, bills are lost. To back up: print important bills as PDF, or use your browser's export/backup feature for localStorage. Future versions will add CSV export.
