ChatGPT for Social Media — Platform-by-Platform Guide
Each platform has a different format, algorithm, and audience expectation. A great LinkedIn post fails on Instagram. Use the right prompt for the right platform.
Instagram — what works
- Hook in line 1 (before "more") — this is the most important line
- Short sentences. Single-sentence paragraphs. Line breaks between ideas.
- Call to action: save, share, comment, DM — pick one, be specific
- Hashtags: 5 niche + 5 mid-size + 3 broad — 13 total is the sweet spot
- Ask ChatGPT: "Rewrite in a conversational tone, no corporate language"
LinkedIn — what works
- Bold first line as a standalone statement — no comma after it
- Use line breaks aggressively — wall of text = zero engagement
- Personal stories outperform advice posts 3:1
- End with a question to drive comments — "What's your experience with this?"
- No external links in the post body — LinkedIn suppresses link posts
Twitter/X — threads that get shared
- Tweet 1: the big claim or counterintuitive fact
- Tweets 2–9: one proof point, example, or step per tweet
- Tweet 10: summary + CTA (follow for more, link to resource)
- Number each tweet (1/10, 2/10) for scannability
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
Instagram's own research suggests 3–5 relevant hashtags perform better than 30 broad ones. A practical framework: 3 niche hashtags (under 100K posts), 3 mid-size (100K–1M posts), and 3 broad (1M+ posts). Rotate hashtag sets to avoid shadowban risk, and never use banned hashtags (check with a hashtag audit tool).
