Free PDF to Word Converter — How It Works
Most online PDF to Word converters upload your file to a remote server. This tool is different — conversion happens entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF never leaves your device, making it safe for sensitive documents: contracts, financial records, legal documents, HR files.
How to convert PDF to Word
Drop your PDF file into the upload area (or click to browse)
The tool extracts text from each page using pdf.js (Mozilla's PDF rendering library)
Text is packaged into a valid .docx file (Word Open XML format) in your browser
Click Download — your Word file is ready instantly
Why does formatting sometimes differ?
PDFs are "fixed layout" documents — they store instructions for how to render pixels on screen, not editable text with formatting codes. A PDF with bold text stores the visual appearance of bold characters, not a "make this bold" instruction Word understands. This tool extracts all text content faithfully, but complex visual layouts (multi-column, tables, text overlapping images) are simplified into flowing paragraphs in the output Word document.
When to use PDF to Word
Edit a contract or agreement you received as a PDF
Update an old report saved as PDF when you lost the original Word file
Extract and reuse text content from a PDF article or paper
Convert a form or template PDF into an editable Word document
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Scanned PDFs are images — there is no text layer to extract. Converting them requires OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which analyses the image and recognises characters. This tool does not include OCR. For scanned PDFs, try Google Drive (upload → Open with Google Docs) or Adobe Acrobat's OCR feature. Both recognise scanned text and export to Word.
Is this tool safe for confidential PDFs?
Yes — your file never leaves your device. Unlike most online converters that upload your PDF to a cloud server (where it may be stored or processed), this tool runs entirely in your browser. The PDF is read into browser memory, converted to text by JavaScript, and the Word file is generated locally. No network request is made with your file content.
