Step 1
Fill your business (seller) details
Example — freelance web developer
Business NameTechByte Solutions
Address402, Shree Complex, MG Road, Pune, MH 411001
GSTIN27AABCT5432R1ZA
Phone+91 92678 45123
Emailbilling@techbytesolutions.in
Step 2
Fill client (buyer) details
Example — client details
Client NameZara Fashion Pvt. Ltd.
Address18, Brigade Road, Bengaluru, KA 560001
Client GSTIN29AABCZ7654E1Z2
Client Emailaccounts@zarafashion.in
💡 If your client is not GST-registered (e.g. an individual), leave their GSTIN blank. The invoice is still valid. Only add the client GSTIN when billing a registered business.
Step 3
Set invoice number and date
Example
Invoice NumberINV-2026-042
Invoice Date31 October 2026
Due Date15 November 2026
💡 Maintain a sequential invoice numbering system (INV-2026-001, INV-2026-002…). GST law requires consecutive invoice numbers within a financial year. Gaps in sequence can trigger scrutiny during audits.
Step 4
Add line items with GST
Add each product or service. Select the correct GST rate for each item.
Example — services invoice for a web project
DescriptionQtyRateGSTAmount
Website Design (5 pages)1₹25,00018%₹25,000
React Frontend Dev (40 hrs)40₹80018%₹32,000
Monthly Maintenance3₹3,00018%₹9,000
Subtotal: ₹66,000
CGST 9%: ₹5,940
SGST 9%: ₹5,940
Total: ₹77,880
💡 CGST + SGST vs IGST: If you and your client are in the same state, GST splits into CGST + SGST (9% + 9% for 18% rate). If your client is in a different state, it's IGST at the full rate (18%). InvoiceKit calculates this automatically based on your states.
Step 5
Download as PDF
Click Download PDF. In the print dialog, select Save as PDF and A4 paper size. The invoice will include all your details, line items, GST breakup, and total.
💡 Email the PDF to your client with a subject like "Invoice INV-2026-042 from TechByte Solutions". Keep a copy in a folder sorted by year for easy filing at tax time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which GST rate applies to my services?

Most professional services (IT, consulting, freelance work, design) are taxed at 18% GST. Educational services: 0%. Restaurant food: 5%. Software products: 18%. Always verify the HSN/SAC code for your specific service at the GST portal. When in doubt, consult a CA.

Do I need a GSTIN to create an invoice?

If your annual turnover is below ₹20 lakhs (₹10 lakhs in some states), GST registration is not mandatory and you can issue invoices without GSTIN. Above that threshold, registration is mandatory. InvoiceKit works whether or not you have a GSTIN.

Can I edit an invoice after downloading it?

InvoiceKit generates a PDF which is not easily editable. To revise an invoice, go back to InvoiceKit, change the details, and download a new PDF. If you issued a wrong invoice to a GST-registered client, you may need to issue a Credit Note — check with your CA for GST compliance.
